Risk of not having Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence strategy can be measured by looking at the cost of getting inconsistent or the wrong answers.
If the answers are inconsistent across the enterprise then the organization is not going to be in alignment. They are going to spend more time bickering, wasting energy, or going in different directions when it could be better spent outdoing the competition.
- If you get the answers wrong and they get in to the financial statements of your organization, the SEC, IRS or your shareholders may not be pleased.
- A well managed Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence environment allows you to propagate changes quickly and in a controlled fashion across the enterprise.
- Risk of getting the inconsistent or incorrect answers can be measured in fines, loss of credibility, loss of share price and market value. Risk, is not just a game.
