In this post I was going to write about the next step of implementing an Agile Approach to Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence projects. As I went through my notes I realized that in many cases the endeavor needs to be justified before the methodology even becomes relevant. Here is my take on justifying a Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence project which has the goal of getting to the single version of the truth.
For a software development project, or for that matter any engineering effort there is a need to determine the benefit of the project once it is completed. For Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence projects the benefits can be determined by considering the following factors:
- Reduced Cost to Get to the Answers
- Timeliness of Information
- Accuracy of Information
- Consistency of Information
- Transparency into the Information Compilation Process
- Reduced Risk from Incorrect Information
I will address each of these bullet points in the upcoming articles in this series.
If in your experience there are other benefits or liabilities to a Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence projects please post them below – that will keep this series of posts interactive.
